Gonococcal infections for the period of pregnancy pose an exceptional challenge. At the same time as in non-pregnant women, the majority of pregnant women with gonorrhea are lacking symptoms, so the infection can simply go undetected. Pregnant women have some degree of defense against the possible complications of gonorrhea. For example, the fetal membranes can help out defend the uterus and fallopian tubes from infection. However, pregnant women with gonorrhea may pass on the infection to their babies during vaginal delivery. When this happens, it is most probably because the baby comes into contact with the mother's genital secretions. Symptoms in infected infants usually come into view two to five days after delivery.
Infected infants may build up localized scalp infections, upper respiratory infections, urethritis, or vaginitis. They too may build up conjunctivitis, a serious eye infection. Less frequently, the organism may go into an infant's blood, basis general illness. As with spread infection in adults, the organism might settle in one or more joints, causing arthritis or meningitis.
Conjunctivitis in the newborn is not frequently caused by gonorrhea. When it occurs, yet, it is serious and may effect in crack of the globe of the eye and permanent blindness. Conjunctivitis caused by gonorrhea is one of the mainly common causes of preventable blindness worldwide; though, it is uncommon in the since newborns are routinely given erythromycin ophthalmic ointment to avert eye infections. The most successful means of preventing infection in neonates (infants less than 28 days old), though, is to screen and treat pregnant women previous to labor.

Ph urine test & urethra swabs). he mentioned the symptoms he has been having for about a week the day he was over and before i gave oral sex. ( i know stupid me should of took this more serious and known) He went to the doctors the next day and was diagnosed with gonorrhea! and when he told me I was so alarmed that I went to the doctors right way and told the doctor i just found out i gave oral sex on a man who had gonorrhea! the doctor kept assuring me not to worry, not to worry! and said i am ok and he thinks i have nothing to worry about. The doc wanted to put me at ease so he prescribed me the same medication the man with gonorrhea of the genitals had (Doxycycline). my question is, even tho my friend was prescribed Doxycycline and had some shot for his genital gonorrhea, will the Doxycycline (only) i was prescribed still prevent me from getting pharyngeal gonorrhea or any gonorrhea in my mouth??? He told me he caught it from a girl who he had intercourse with six weeks ago. by the way, there was no ejaculation that occured anywhere near my mouth, i dont think any fluids touched my mouth, can i still contact gonorrhea by mouth, throat, genitals, anywhere? i dont think i had opened cuts on hands that fluid may have touched except maybe a tiny scratch that healed with a scab.
will my meds protect me
and does throat gonorrhea have white puss like strep has or just red throat? what does it look like so i can beware! i am scared and still alarmed! the doc i went to didnt even want to test me or do any throat cultures. it was the next day after oral sex, is that to early for throat cultures and will antibiotics still work if gonorrhea was not even incubated yet?
